Counterpublic

The National Building Arts Center is proud to announce we’re an official exhibition partner for Counterpublic 2026: Coyote Time.

@counterpublic is one of the most innovative triennials in the world, shifting the landscape of contemporary art through meaningful public, site-specific installations with partnering organizations across St Louis in ways that support civic initiatives that extend beyond the exhibition.

For their third exhibition cycle, titled Coyote Time, NBAC is an anchor site where artists, curators, scientists, and the public come together to experience the role of art in shaping public life. Coyote Time will transform St. Louis and our campus into a living laboratory of artistic research where preservation meets contemporary art.

Counterpublic 2026: Coyote Time opens across St. Louis from September 10–December 13, 2026.

At NBAC, global artists mix with local artists attending to deep nuances found within our collection and in the environment around us–walking our campus, studying salvaged architectural artifacts, stewarding frogs and seeds, and drawing inspiration from the very materials that allow the story of American building to be reinterpreted and experienced in an embodied way.
